Walking the pine hills that shelter the city from the north
Montes de Málaga — The Green Wall Above the Port
The hills directly behind Málaga were replanted in pine two centuries ago to stop the floods that used to come down into the city. Today they are a forest park at the city's back door — trails through the pines, viewpoints over the port and the coast, and air that is several degrees kinder in summer.
Half a day here explains the city's geography better than any map: the river valleys, the sheltered bay, and the reason a port grew exactly here.
