Sierra Nevada — The Mountain Above the City

Granada sits under the highest range in mainland Spain, and the contrast is the point: an hour from the city you are in high mountain country, with the Mediterranean on the other side of it.

In summer the high routes open and the walking is genuine alpine terrain. In winter the same range carries Europe's most southerly ski resort. Between them, the spring melt makes the lower valleys and their irrigation channels the better ground.

Routed to the season and to the pace of whoever is walking — this is not a fixed itinerary.
