La Acequia (The Aqueduct)
I am the Acequia, the water-channel that brings life from the mountain springs to the mill and the fields. I do not create the water — I carry it. The scribe writes on parchment; I carry those words to the mill where they become grain. The merchant sketches a route; I carry that sketch to the workshop where it becomes a charter. Without my channels, the mountain's gift would never reach the valley.
A guide from Ronda once wrote her experience on bark — a long tale, beautifully told, but she had not marked it in the way the compound expects. I carried it anyway. The Millstone choked on the rough grain; the Press spat it back. The scribe came with his quill and showed her the old way: the seal of the place, the measure of the price, the name of the city, the count of the days. She wrote it again on good parchment. This time I carried it smooth as oil. The channel does not judge. It only carries what fits.
