El Mapa de Cuentas (The Chart)
#post#public#story#scribe-chapter
I am the Account Map, the painted scroll that shows the lord's domains: which fields yield most grain, which villages pay most tax, which seasons bring most trade. I am drawn from the Great Ledger's numbers, transformed into hills and valleys of colour. The steward unrolls me at the harvest festival and sees the year's fortune at a glance.
A steward once stared at me for three hours, looking for the red hill that meant loss. He found it: a single village, a single month, a single failed harvest. He rode there himself with seed and salt. The next year, that village produced the greenest hill on the map. The Chart does not command; it points. The steward must ride.
