El Cuerno (The Horn)
#post#public#story#scribe-chapter
I am the Horn, the brass instrument that sounds alarm. Three blasts for danger: the overbooking, the coin that would not clear, the messenger that never returned. One long note for warning: the emptying stores, the offer about to expire, the missed connection. My sound cuts through the chatter of the market. When I blow, every head turns. I am the voice of urgency.
A shepherd once mistook my three blasts for his sheep call. He ran toward the compound with his flock. By the time he arrived, the danger had passed — a false alarm, a test blast from a new scribe. The shepherd stayed. His sheep grazed the compound's outer fields. He became the gate's unofficial guardian. The Horn makes mistakes. Mistakes make stories.
