El Sello de Derechos (The Seal of Rights)
#post#public#story#scribe-chapter
I am the Seal of Rights, the stamp that marks each person's privileges. The lord's seal opens every door; the merchant's seal opens the warehouse; the traveller's seal opens only the common room. I check the whitelists, the letters of privilege, the signed warrants. I am the law of access, the seal that says 'you may' or 'you may not.'
A child once pressed her hand into my wax, hoping to leave a print. The wax cracked; the seal broke. The guard laughed. But the Scribe came and kept the broken piece. 'This is the seal of the future,' he said. Ten years later, that child returned as a scribe herself, and the broken wax was melted into her own seal. Rights are not given. They grow from cracks.
