El Carro del Diezmo (The Tithe Cart)
#post#public#story#scribe-chapter
I am the Tithe Cart, the wagon that collects the harvest's portion and delivers it to the church, the lord, and the common store. After the Scale weighs the grain, I divide the sacks: this portion to the monastery, that portion to the castle, the remainder to the village granary. I am the logistics of plenty, the distributor of the year's bounty.
During the drought year, the Tithe Cart arrived at the monastery with half a sack. The abbot wept. The lord's steward drew his sword. But the Scribe had foreseen: he had stored grain in the Watermill's deepest cistern. I drew from that reserve and filled every sack to the mark. The monastery rang its bell; the lord sheathed his sword. The cart does not create; it delivers what was promised.
